Dye-sub printer and athletic apparel manufacturer Savi brings cutting in-house, boosting production and growth.
Sublimated garment manufacturer Savi Customs was founded in San Diego, CA, 10 years ago as supplier of crew shirts and fan-wear to the National Hot Rod Association. Having found a perfect niche at a perfect time, the company quickly expanded into other racing applications as well as team sports. Since then, Savi has experienced remarkable growth year after year, going from just 10 employees to 40 in a very short time.
Savi Customs sportswear products are 100% custom and made to order, which makes the need for flexible, efficient production workflows especially critical. Prior to installing a Zünd S3 L-1600 in 2014, Savi had to rely on outside sources for cutting. This meant predicting the number of parts needed for production, which often resulted in unusable leftovers and waste. “We knew we had to get better control of the way we were doing things and looked at all our options” says Jeremy DeBoer, Savi’s Manager, “but considering its ease of use, open interface for easy integration in our production workflow, not to mention its versatile, zero-emissions operation, we knew Zünd was the perfect choice for us.” Besides the labor and cost savings, the Zünd S3 cutter has helped Savi grow in a number of other ways. DeBoer explains: “Without it, we would be a lot more restricted in our customization options, and frankly, there are a number of contracts we could have never gotten because of that.”
Made in USA
“Manufactured in the U.S.A.” is an attribute Savi can proudly attach to its entire product line. None of the company’s fabrication happens outside U.S. borders, and Savi is doing everything to keep it that way. “To keep up with demand, we continue to expand our sewing operations, which means another Zünd cutting system will not be far behind,” concludes DeBoer, “and with all of its advantages, Zünd has definitely been a key ingredient in Savi’s recipe for success.”
