FESPA Digital 2014 provides perfect stage for Zünd to demonstrate time-saving features, supercharged productivity

At FESPA Digital (Munich, Germany, May 20-23, 2014) visitors can witness firsthand Zünd’s relentless pursuit of superior productivity in all aspects of digital cutting/finishing. The modular design of Zünd cutting systems and their components allows for tailoring configurations to meet very specific production and automation needs. Every machine is designed for 24/7 operation and capable of processing the widest range of materials up to a thickness of 100 mm/4“. At this year’s FESPA, the primary focus of Zünd’s exhibit is on increasing efficiency throughout the production workflow. Zünd is displaying cutting system configurations that meet the rigorous productivity demands typical of those encountered by most print service providers on a daily basis. Software- and hardware components perfectly complement one another, fully automated material handling systems limit the need for manual intervention, and high-performance tooling dramatically increases processing efficiencies.

The Zünd automatic sheet feeder provides a perfect example of an easy way for print service providers to dramatically increase productivity by automating the loading of sheeted goods. Preprinted sheets and lighter-weight board materials can be processed in a fully automated workflow, requiring minimal operator intervention. With this setup, even high-volume jobs can be completed quickly and efficiently while still permitting a high degree of flexibility. Another highlight of Zünd’s exhibit is the G3 M-2500 tandem cutting system. In a tandem/pendulum, semi-automated production workflow, loading/unloading and processing occur at the same time.  While materials are manually loaded on one side of the machine, cutting/processing continues on the other. This maximizes productivity by increasing throughput and reducing machine idle time. This demonstration system is equipped with a router and the new, ultrafast high-performance oscillating tool, the "Electric Oscillating Tool – EOT-250“. The EOT-250 is the perfect tool for processing, e.g. Re-board® and other thick, multi-layered/cored cardboard materials. This powerful tool is equipped with a motor drive designed to process even the thickest, toughest materials at maximum speed.

Another highlight is a fully automated Zünd cutting system configured for processing up to 100-kg/220-lb rolls. A sophisticated tension-control mechanism ensures flawless cutting of the most challenging textiles, allowing these materials to be advanced without wrinkles or stretch. A cutter extension at the front of the machine provides an off-load area that permits the cutting process to continue without interruption. Attendees can experience on site how easy it is to process every kind of printed substrate, be that vinyl, banners, or textiles. All Zünd cutting solutions on display are powered by the latest version of Zünd Cut Center. One of the new features of the Zünd digital workflow suite generates comprehensive production data with a detailed list of processing times for each job. ZCC lends itself perfectly to seamless integration in the digital Print&Cut workflow. Processing times and throughput for each job can be sent automatically to all commonly used RIP programs. This allows print service providers to keep track of costs throughout every phase of production.
