Fueling Sustainable Motorsport Education

Zund UK is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the University of Wolverhampton Racing (UWR) teams for the 2026 season. As part of the partnership, the Zünd brand will appear on a racing car and the UWR team will also gain access to Zund’s cutting expertise.

UWR is an impressive, student-led racing team that brings together engineering students from the University of Wolverhampton, giving them the chance to apply their knowledge in a real-world motorsport setting. Competing against established professional teams, students gain invaluable hands-on experience that helps prepare them for careers in the industry.

This season, UWR will compete in the Radical Cup UK and the BRSCC Clubsport Trophy, racing vehicles including the Radical SR3 XXR and Morgan Plus Four. These championships demand technical precision, teamwork and resilience, offering students a true taste of professional motorsport.

Based at the Telford Innovation Campus, the University’s School of Engineering offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical, Electronic and Telecommunications, Mechanical, Mechatronics and Motorsport Engineering.

Shane Kelly, UWR Team Manager said “This programme simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors. Having the backing of sponsors like Zünd gives our students a unique opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it in a fast-paced, competitive racing environment.”

A student commented, “Being part of UWR is a challenge, but also a hugely rewarding experience. As students we are pushed to turn theory into practice, working under pressure to design, build and race cars capable of competing against national and international teams.”

Nicki Kay, Managing Director at Zund UK Ltd said “As an existing Zünd customer, the team is already putting our cutting systems to great use. This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to support and champion the next generation of engineers as they develop their skills and push themselves in a highly competitive environment. Zund UK is proud to support UWR this season and looks forward to following their progress on track.”

The University of Wolverhampton continues to demonstrate strong outcomes for its students. The School of Engineering has been awarded Silver status in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and 96% of graduates are in work or further study within six months of graduating. Of those, 77% remain in the West Midlands, contributing to the local economy.
