Why Aero Q-Line

Based on the innovative machine concept of the Zünd Q-Line, the Aero Q-Line is not just a cutter – it is a mission-critical component for next‑generation composite manufacturing. Its linear‑drive architecture eliminates belt‑related inaccuracies, ensuring every ply is cut with aerospace‑level precision. When paired with automated preforming technologies and robotics, the Aero Q-Line becomes a cornerstone of highly automated, digitally connected production environments.

Key Features

  • Carbon‑fiber‑reinforced, lightweight beam ensures ultimate precision at high speeds
  • Single-beam architecture enables uninterrupted cutting of long or large format parts
  • Machine‑to‑Machine (M2M) automation interface for seamless cell integration
  • Linear‑motor drive system reaches diagonal speeds up to 2.8 m/s (110 in/s) and acceleration up to 15 m/s²
  • Multizone tandem operation allows simultaneous picking and cutting
  • Eight automatic tool‑change slots with blade‑life monitoring prevent downtime
  • Optional roll carousel for continuous material feeding
  • Optional belt‑cleaning unit and automated waste removal for extended runtime

Performance & Capability

The Aero Q-Line is engineered for industries where precision and scale are non‑negotiable. This high-performance digital cutting system cuts an entire ply – up to 21.4 m (70 ft) – in a single pass. Swiss precision is reflected in the Aero Q-Line: With a cutting accuracy of ±0.1 mm/m and a repeatability of ±0.1 mm, the digital cutting system is engineered for challenging, high-performance applications. As the system prevents stray fibers and dimensional deviation, it significantly improves downstream layup and forming quality.

Integration in Automated Composite Lines

The Aero Q‑Line is designed to operate at the heart of an advanced automated preforming ecosystem. When combined with Loop Technology’s FibreLINE components – including industrial robots, FibreFORM for automated ply forming, and FibreEYE/FibreTACK for AI‑driven inspection and tacking – it enables a fully connected, highly efficient process chain from cutting to mold deposition.

Customer-Centric Development

Zünd worked closely with Loop Technology to develop a modular solution derived from the Zünd Q-Line, adaptable to customer needs and incorporating cutting-edge technology for aerospace manufacturing. Among other installations, Loop Technology's FibreLINE system, which includes a Zünd Aero Q-Line of 21.4 m (70 ft) length, is installed at the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. This cutting-edge, high-rate preform manufacturing system is designed to pick and form composite plies into intricate 3D double-curvature profiles. It then precisely places them onto a tool, inspects, and heat-stakes the components, preparing them for the next stage of production. Targeting high precision and deposition rates in excess of 200 kg/hr, the process presents opportunities for smaller factory footprints and significant downstream assembly benefits in high-rate applications.
