Cristex expands aerospace cutting and kitting capacity with new Zünd cutter investment
New Zünd investment supports growth in aerospace and advanced composites manufacturing through enhanced cutting, kitting and traceability capabilities for Cristex.
Since its formation in 1990, Cristex has evolved into one of the UK's leading suppliers of high-performance fibres, fabrics and advanced composite materials. Serving customers across aerospace, defence, motorsport and other high-performance industries, the company has built its reputation on technical expertise, quality and a commitment to helping customers achieve greater manufacturing efficiency.
Today, that commitment is driving the next phase of Cristex's growth and part of that wider expansion programme includes investment in a new building and enhanced manufacturing capabilities, Cristex has installed another new Zünd G3 L-2500 digital cutting system to support the continued development of its specialist cutting and kitting division, CCK Aerospace.

The investment comes in response to increasing demand for outsourced cutting and kitting services, particularly within aerospace and defence, where manufacturers are under growing pressure to improve efficiency, maximise material utilisation and maintain complete traceability throughout the production process. Customers are also increasingly seeking partners capable of delivering both advanced composite materials and value-added downstream processing services from a single source. To meet these requirements, Cristex has continued to invest in its facilities and capabilities, including a dedicated ISO-controlled cleanroom environment for prepreg cutting and kitting, increased digital cutting capacity and ongoing process improvements. The addition of a new Zünd cutter represents another significant step forward in strengthening its manufacturing offer.
For Cristex, the decision to invest in a further Zünd system was a natural one. The company had already experienced the reliability, performance and precision of Zünd technology and recognised its potential to support the next stage of growth. As production volumes increased, Cristex needed to expand capacity while maintaining the exceptional levels of accuracy and consistency required by aerospace and other highly regulated industries. Improving material yield, reducing manual handling and strengthening traceability were also key objectives. The new Zünd cutter has helped address each of these challenges. Integrated with Leibinger coding and marking technology, the system enhances part identification and traceability throughout the cutting and kitting process, helping to ensure greater production control and consistency.

Beyond increased cutting capacity, the investment has delivered improvements in material utilisation, workflow efficiency and production planning. Advanced nesting capability helps maximise yield, while increased automation reduces manual intervention and supports faster processing speeds. Most importantly, the system enables highly accurate and repeatable cutting of prepreg and technical composite materials, ensuring the consistency required for critical aerospace applications. The flexibility of the technology also allows Cristex to process a wide range of advanced materials while maintaining the high-quality standards expected by its customers.
The investment reflects Cristex's broader strategy of combining industry-leading material expertise with advanced manufacturing technologies to deliver greater value throughout the composite supply chain. As demand for precision cutting and kitting services continues to grow, the company is well positioned to support both existing and future customers with increased capacity, enhanced efficiency and uncompromising quality.

With its latest investment in Zünd technology and ongoing expansion programme, Cristex continues to strengthen its position as a trusted partner to the UK's advanced composites industry, helping customers transform high-performance materials into high-performance outcomes.
