Digital Production on Live Display

For the upcoming Heimtextil show, Messe Frankfurt is launching a „Digital Textile Micro Factory“ as part of the „digital print technology“ product group area in Hall 6.0. The display consists of live demonstrations of the complete digital production chain and was brought about in cooperation with the German Institutes for Textile and Fibre Research and well-known industry representatives. A Zünd high-performance cutting system is used to perform digital cutting functions.

The tour through the Micro Factory in the designated "digital print technology" area in Hall 6.0 begins in the design area, which represents the first phase of the digital production workflow. The next phase consists of a wide-format digital inkjet printer printing on fabric, followed by a Zünd S3 L-1200 performing the digital cutting. In the next phase, cut parts are automatically identified and sorted for assembly in the final, sewing phase.
Cutting the printed designs is a key component of this type of digital workflow. With their open architecture, Zünd's highly modular cutting systems can easily be integrated in existing workflows. The Zünd Cut Center ZCC user interface and production workflow can handle file formats from all popular RIPs. To further facilitate the cutting process, a camera system in combination with ZCC takes care of registering the cut to the print. Instead of predefined register marks, portions of the printed designs can be used to precisely match the cut to the print, which ensures perfect compensation even in case of significant stretch or distortions.

Consumer demand for personalization and customization in home textiles is steadily growing. This is precisely why digital cutting plays such a key role in this industry. The Zünd cutters on display at Heimtextil offer advantages beyond the considerable expansion of design options through digital cutting. Production speed, flexibility, and personalization are just a few of the benefits resulting from the latest advances in cutting technologies. In addition, digital cutting considerably shortens production cycles and reduces time to market. It also permits home textile buyers to respond faster and on a more individual basis to changes in consumer preferences.
